Herb of the day – Fenugreek – the “breastfeeding” herb

Spicy fenugreek (or Trigonella Foenum-Graecum) is a wonderful herb to support breastfeeding women.

Fenugreek is not only anti-inflammatory and a digestive, but it is also fantastic at stimulating breast milk production and flow, as it is a “galactagogue”.

It has been said that too much fenugreek may lend a spicy flavour to your breast milk. However, as this is such an effective herb for stimulating breast milk production, it is worth a little spiciness!

Fenugreek is a rich source of antioxidants and has been used traditionally, for numerous other ailments. It is worth nothing that it is not recommended for pregnant women as it is a uterine stimulant and so could induce labour.

But if you are breastfeeding, go for it!
