The best Breastfeeding Tea?

New Mama Breastfeeding Tea

Why is New Mama the best breastfeeding tea on the market? It is not just because of it’s amazing taste and flavour…there are lots of reasons. We asked Anna Louise Simpson, Founder and Mama of Mama Tea why New Mama was so good:

fullsizerender

Interviewer: Lots of new mums swear by your New Mama breastfeeding tea. Why is that?

Anna-Louise: Well, we use three galactagogues for a start! Galactagogues help the body to produce and express breastmilk. We use nettle-leaf, fennel and fenugreek in New Mama so there is a very high chance that this tea will help to get new mums to breastfeed.

Interviewer: What other herbs are included in this breastfeeding tea?

Anna-Louise: We have also included red clover for mastitis and lemon balm for post-natal depression.

Interviewer: How important do you think herbs are for new mums and pregnant mums?

New Mama Breastfeeding Tea

Anna-Louise: I think herbs are one of the most important ways in which we can live a truly holistic life. Nature put them there for a reason and humans respond so well to them, that we would be crazy not to use them. All of our Mama Teas are 100% caffeine-free so all are safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Mama Tea

Mama Tea.  Don’t you love the name?  Such fun and the innovative Anna Simpson, a mumpreneur started this brilliant business when she found there was not a lot of choice or information out there for pregnant and breastfeeding mamas when it came to herbal teas.  She started her venture from her living room whilst looking after her two kids. What an inspiration, something I only dream of doing.

I stumbled across this tea when I received my bounty pack when I found out I was pregnant.  I love herbal tea and immediately brewed a cup.  I was pleasantly surprised – delicious flavours, easy to drink and of course healthy for you and your bump/baby.

All Mama teas are 100% natural and caffeine free – her newly designed website is easy to use and informative too.  Why not go have a look and if you fancy, try her taster pack which contains the following Mama Tea blends:

Morning Mama – Ginger and Chamomile Herbal Tea
Glowing Mama – Rooibos and Elderflower Herbal Tea
Cool Mama – Spearmint and Chamomile Herbal Tea
Ready Mama – Raspberry Leaf and Rose Petal Herbal Tea
New Mama – Fennel and Liquorice Herbal Tea

I love supporting local and independent businesses and I think Anna is an inspiration to all us Moms out there.

Happy tea-drinking ♥

Tea and breastfeeding – why our tea is not only safe to drink but is the best!

Breastfeeding

When Anna Louise started Mama Tea , she was breastfeeding her second child. When she first started breastfeeding, she really struggled. Getting the baby to latch on and feed properly was tough. When the baby wasn’t feeding properly, it would cry a lot and in turn, this put huge amounts of pressure on this new mum. When you are at that vital stage, it is important to realise you are not alone. Lots of women struggle initially with breastfeeding. It is good to have a network of friends and support around you.

Mama Tea – Make a Difference

Mama Tea – a Female Brand

I never set out to create a brand that would just appeal to women; it just developed quite naturally into that! I have always been passionate about women and women being equal to men in the world, but I am no bra-burning feminist!

The idea for Mama Tea came from two very painful pregnancies. Sorry to all the guys out there reading this but I am now going to go into the kind of details that only women will understand….

Morning Sickness

It wasn’t just in the mornings. It was EVERY DAY for 20 weeks and 24 weeks relatively. It completely took the bloom off being pregnant and made me feel awful. From what I’ve heard from other women, I wasn’t on my own….

Pregnancy Heartburn

I had never experienced heartburn before pregnancy and then it hit me like a brick! It was so terrible that it dominated my every waking moment. Balancing eating too little with eating just a little bit too much that would tip you over into heartburn hell. Drinking heartburn remedies like water and wondering what could possibly make it taste a little better?

Overdue

Like many mums-to-be, I went quite far over my due date with both pregnancies. I was going up the walls! I tried raspberry leaf tea, like many others, but hated the taste of it, so wondered if it was possible to make it taste good??

Breastfeeding

Luckily I didn’t suffer with lack of breast milk like a lot of others, but I still found it incredibly difficult to get the baby to latch on properly and found the whole experience extremely stressful and I had ENOUGH MILK!! Therefore, I wondered if I could make a tea that helped with both the breast milk production and the stress?

Mama Tea – A brand for Women – Making a Difference

The reasons above are all the practical reasons that I created Mama Tea however the fundamental passion behind Mama Tea is empowering other women. Mama Tea is dedicated to making a difference to women. If that is through a cup of tea that helps with breast milk production or through our supportive social network, we are there for other women. We believe passionately in empowering women, so we are now launching our MAKE A DIFFERENCE campaign to empower women world-wide. We are looking at several different initiatives but are keen to hear from our community for some crowd ideas!

Watch this space for more details but if you have some ideas for how we can MAKE A DIFFERENCE, we want to hear them!

To all the women out there.

Thanks to Courtney Wagner for a wonderful review – thanks!

Mama Tea’s Herbal Blends For Moms-To-Be – Calgary tea | Examiner.com.

Mama Tea is a company owned by Anna Louise Simpson and is based in Edinburgh, Scotland. The company sells a range of caffeine-free herbal teas designed for pregnant and nursing moms who love tea and want to continue to indulge safely. Each of the blends also come with some great benefits too. For instance, Cool Mama is great for heartburn during pregnancy, and the chamomile in this blend is also a natural relaxant. With delicious-sounding blends like ginger and chamomile and rooibos and elderflower, anyone who loves herbal tea should take notice of this up and coming tea company. These five blends are yummy, healthy and soothing teas for moms-to-be and those who just want an alternative to caffeinated beverages.

Ready Mama – A raspberry leaf and rose petal blend

With a stunning deep pink infusion and an aroma of fresh raspberry and a strong floral note, this blend is easily lovable.  It has a pleasant tanginess and is naturally slightly sweet. There is almost a bit of a green tea aspect in the background, which is very pleasant and gives this tea structure. It has great body compared to many herbal teas and a nice, long finish.

Morning Mama – A ginger and chamomile blend

Morning Mama boasts a light yellow infusion and smells sweet, floral and spicy. With lemon balm and citrus peel, the aroma and flavor is balanced and lovely. The ginger is the star with a spicy kick that is a definite pick-me-up, as well as it is warming and satisfying. For a little indulgence, this concoction would be amazing paired with some gingersnap cookies.

Cool Mama – A spearmint and chamomile blend

Mint tea is generally quite straightforward. This one has a little twist. Present in this blend are some interesting flavor profiles not commonly found mint teas. The floral component of the chamomile is very balanced and fits perfectly. It tames the cool spearmint without mellowing it too much. It is slightly sweet as well and goes down easily with a great finish.

New Mama – A fennel and lemon balm blend

This blend has a deep yellow, almost turmeric colored infusion. The aroma is complex, from sweet black licorice and kind of a light curry scent (sounds a little strange, but it’s the fenugreek). It tastes rich, creamy and full bodied, and is a very interesting, complex herbal tea.

Glowing Mama – A rooibos and elderflower blend

Rooibos is rich and satisfying, and blends effortlessly with countless flavorings. This blend brews a light amber cup and smells heavenly. It has the sweet, earthy, woody flavor of South African rooibos and a pretty floral component due to the elderflower. For mamas (and others) who miss their black tea, brew this blend strong and add a little milk and sugar. Mmm…

Mama Tea should win plenty new fans. These are not your run-of-the-mill herbal blends. They were created with the assistance of a master tea blender, who perfectly harmonized the flavors of each of the herbs, spices and other ingredients to make these herbal teas a healthy indulgence for moms who don’t want to sacrifice great taste.

Breastfeeding Mothers and New Mothers Need Support

With news this week of the threatened closure of the Breastfeeding Baby Café in Northampton due to funding problems, the question has been raised about the support provided to breastfeeding new mums and where this support comes from.

New mothers and breastfeeding mums require both practical and emotional support. This support can come from family and friends, medical professionals and charities and groups, such as the Baby Café.

The support of family and friends is great if you’ve got it but we no longer live in a community surrounded by extended family. We lead busy lives, often miles away from our parents and siblings, and friends have their own hectic lives to lead.

Midwives, health visitors and the NHS provide practical breastfeeding support to new mothers. Many new mums however are in need of ongoing emotional support and advice too and this is where the charities and groups come in.

The Breastfeeding Baby Cafés are supported by the NCT and provide the chance for new mums to meet other new mums, share experiences and get advice on breastfeeding in an informal setting. This emotional support cannot be measured and its value goes far beyond getting a baby to breastfeed comfortably. Without emotional support, breastfeeding women can feel isolated and their self-esteem can suffer; this can take years to recover from.

Services like this need to be encouraged and expanded to be available to new mums and breast-feeding women everywhere and not struggling and worrying about funding. The breastfeeding mums in Northampton have started a Facebook campaign to highlight problems with their funding and the value of such a resource. These new mums need our support. Please join their campaign on Facebook below:

http://www.facebook.com/groups/308929855812633/

They have also started a Twitter campaign, so please follow them and show support:

https://twitter.com/#!/save_baby_cafe

The power of harnessing social media to highlight a social cause, like raising the profile of breastfeeding in public, is not to be underestimated. These courageous women are utilising the social power available to them to draw attention to their need. Social Breastfeeding is here to stay!
