Echinacea is a pretty flowering plant in the daisy family often cultivated for their showy flowers in gardens, some varieties also have potential healing powers.
Echinacea is one of the most important herbs used by native American healers. According to one 19th century source, it was used as a “remedy for more ailments than any other plant”. By the 1850s, Echinacea was already widely used by European settlers, largely as an aromatic and carminative for digestive problems. Interest in the plant spread and by the 1930s research in Germany had highlighted its potent antibiotic actions.
